Empowering the Church Square Community: The Impact of the Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation

As we look back on the last seven years, it is with great pride that I reflect on the transformative work my team and I have achieved through the Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation. Our steadfast mission is to reduce juvenile delinquency and combat community deterioration in the Church Square community. This journey has been nothing short of inspiring, and our collective efforts have borne fruit in ways that resonate deeply within our hearts and the lives of those we serve.

Five years ago, we faced a significant challenge when the only grocery store in our community closed its doors, plunging hundreds of low-income families into a food desert. Determined not to let our neighbors go hungry, we established a weekly grocery distribution that has since become one of the most significant free grocery initiatives in Baltimore City. This vital lifeline has ensured that families receive the nourishment they need, fostering resilience and hope in the face of adversity.

Our commitment to fostering a sense of community and togetherness goes beyond providing food. We distribute over 350 turkeys each year, ensuring that every family can celebrate Thanksgiving with dignity and joy. Our free Thanksgiving dinners, complete with entertainment, have become cherished events, bringing smiles and warmth to many faces. The festive spirit continues throughout the year with our Christmas and Halloween parties, creating magical moments for the children and reinforcing the bonds that hold our community together.

We have also invested in the future through our free summer camp, recognizing the importance of nurturing the next generation. Serving over 50 young people, the camp offers fun and learning and free breakfast and lunch, ensuring our children are well-fed and ready to embrace new experiences.

Our partnership with esteemed institutions such as Johns Hopkins and GBMC/Gilchrist has enabled us to provide free health screenings, blood pressure checks, and vaccines at our gym. This crucial access to healthcare ensures that our community remains healthy and informed, a testament to the power of collaboration and shared goals.

Additionally, our collaborations with organizations like Maryland Volunteer Services have brought invaluable services to our community, further enhancing the quality of life for our residents.

The work of the Mr. Mack Lewis Foundation is far from complete. With unwavering dedication and the continued support of our partners, we remain committed to creating a brighter, safer, and more vibrant Church Square. Our journey is one of hope, resilience, and the unyielding belief that we can overcome any obstacle together and create lasting change.
